Academics

Mayatan Bilingual School believes that every action and every administrative or teaching decision is to be made in the best interests of our students. All our educational endeavors will be based upon respect and protection of our students as individuals.

To accomplish this academic goal the school upholds the followings standards:

Pre School

In Pre School (PK & Kinder) we aim to stimulate students' imagination and enthusiasm for learning, introduce them to basic oral English and Spanish language and numeric skills, enhance group and social skills, increase confidence and prepare students for full English immersion in the upper grades.

Primary School

In our Primary School (grades 1-5) we are committed to maintaining a strong bilingual program in which students fully develop literacy skills in both English and Spanish. While students will become totally immersed in English, we will continue to reinforce Spanish language skills in the required Honduran Education classes; Español and Estudios Sociales as well as in Actividades Prácticas, Música and Educación Física classes all of which will be taught in Spanish. Mayatan Bilingual School is particularly committed to building a strong foundation in core academic subjects: English (reading, writing, spelling, grammar and handwriting), Math, Science and Social Studies. The academic curriculum is complimented by a well-rounded extracurricular program.

Secondary School

In our Secondary School (grades 6-9) students build on basic academic understandings, taking their learning to a higher level. We are dedicated to promoting high academic expectations, hard work and the acquisition of strong critical thinking skills and habits of curiosity and questioning that allow our students to prepare themselves to explore their options and make good choices as they move toward their next steps in education. At this level Mayatan also expects our students to hone their leadership skills and act as role models for the younger students at school and in the community. To accomplish this we encourage our students to expand and put into practice the skills they have acquired by volunteering in our community and outlying communities.
