There are a number of ways in which you can support Mayatan Foundation and its charitable acts. We will use these resources to...
At Mayatan Foundation we prefer to use the term invest in place of donate because we consider your contribution to be so much more than just a gift. When investing in Mayatan, you will be helping to create opportunities for students in one of the poorest countries in the world to gain a quality English education and break the cycle of poverty.
When you invest money by purchasing stock in a company, a certain amount of Return On Investment or ROI can be expected. When investing in Mayatan the return on your invesment will not a financial one, but a social one. This Social Return on Investment you will receive is to change the world for deserving children.
There are several different methods for individuals and organizations to invest in Mayatan. The sections below discuss different options that are available. If a financial investment is not an option for you, but you would still like to help to advance Mayatan's work, please visit the ‘Join Us’ page to see some other ways to get involved.
There are a number of different ways to support the work of Mayatan Foundation from providing scholarships to contributing new or used materials and volunteering in person or from afar. The sections below give a brief overview of some of the options available.
Just the way we refer to contributions sent toMayatan Foundation as investments, so too do we refer to our work with the students of Copán Ruinas as an investment - an investment in their futures by awarding them with scholarships to study a bilingual school with high academic standards. Some students are from the neighboring communities of Ostuman and Santa Rita as well as the Maya Ch'orti' communities (or aldeas) spread throughout the countryside. These scholarships are the core activity of the Foundation's effort to “to improve education opportunities for students from all walks of life” - not just the wealthy elite. We rely on contributions from individuals to help defray the costs. There are two options available for contributing towards these costs and investing in the futures of bright young students in Honduras.
You can sponsor a child who has been awarded a scholarship at Mayatan Bilingual School through the ‘Student Sponsorship Program’, in which sponsors pay the costs of the student's scholarship. This is an excellent way for investors to follow their investment over the course of a school year. In fact, many sponsors have developed a personal relationship with the student and elected to continue sponsoring the child throughout his or her study at Mayatan. Youc can learn more about this program on the ‘Student Sponsorship Program’ page and be sure to visit the ‘Students Seeking Sponsors’ page to read about some of our students.
For those who prefer to invest a smaller amount or who are not able to contribute the full amount of a child's scholarship the ‘Mayatan Assistance Program’ is available. In this program, contributions from many investors are combined to provide for students who do not have individual sponsors. This program's funds also help the Foundation to make decisions on the amount of scholarships that can be awarded in the future. You can read more about this program by visiting the ‘Mayatan Assistance Program’ page.

In Honduras, it can be difficult for Mayatan Foundation to purchase items that are easily available in other parts of the world. We have compiled some different wish lists of items that will help Mayatan to improve the facilities at Mayatan Bilingual School. Please take a look at the following lists:
We are continuously adding to our library in order to have more material for our students to read. In a country where reading is not always viewed as a worthwhile activity and parents do not frequently read to their children, we are always on the lookout for quality reading material in both English and Spanish. For this reason, we have compiled a wish list on Amazon.com. You can purchase items from this list and they will be sent directly to us in Honduras.
At Mayatan we value the arts and the role that music play in a child's development. Our music program is flourishing, but we do not always have enough musical instruments to go around and have compiled a wish list of items that would help us. You can learn more about our efforts by visiting the ‘Music at Mayatan’ page. We are looking for the following items:
Mayatan is adding a science lab facility for our students to begin conducting real experiments. Although we have a strong curriculum and experienced teachers, many of the supplies for a fully-stocked laboratory can be difficult to obtain in Honduras and are sometimes beyond our means. Our faculty has developed a wish list of items that would be of great help to our students.
If you can assist the Foundation by purchasing or sending items from these lists please contact the Director of Development at director@mayatanfoundation.org for more information on how to do so.
