Being part of the Student Sponsorship Program with Mayatan Foundation is a rewarding and enriching experience for both sponsors and sponsored students alike. We invite you to get involved and change a child's future. You can help students from some of the country's poorest communities get a great education and find a path out of poverty.
The Student Sponsorship Program is the core fundraising activity for scholarships from Mayatan Foundation and works by matching investors in the futures of students at Mayatan Bilingual School with a particular student seeking a sponsor for his or her scholarship.
Sponsors pledge to make contributions to Mayatan Foundaton in the amount of a scholarship for a particular student (at either 50% or 100% of the cost of the scholarship). Throughout the school year (September to June) the sponsor is requested to be making payments towards that pledge. While some sponsors choose to pay the entire amount at the beginning of the school year others choose to split the payments into 10 monthly payments or whatever arrangement works best for them. By making an investment to Mayatan in the amount of a child's school fees the Foundation is able to support other students seeking sponsors and continue granting scholarships.
Mayatan Foundation will keep the sponsor updated on the student's progress throughout the year by sending grade reports, newsletters, and even thank-you notes from the student. The minimum time commitment for sponsoring a child is one year, although many sponsors stay with the same student year after year and follow a student's progress through the whole of their schooling at Mayatan Bilingual School.
Students like Keysi Anai are just waiting for a sponsor to help cover the cost of their education. To read more about Keysi Anai, visit the ‘Students Seeking Sponsors’ page.Students eligible for sponsorship through Mayatan Foundation have already been accepted into Mayatan Bilingual School and may already be attending. They were selected based primarily on their financial need, but their academic strength and family situations are also important considerations. Although at Mayatan we believe that every child has the ability to succeed, we have only the space and funding available to support a select few with a scholarship.
Families who desire for their children the opportunity to study at Mayatan but who are unable to pay the school fees are invited each Spring to an information session in which the application process is explained as well as the expectations that Mayatan has for its students. Based upon the funds that are available and the number of students who apply at the different levels, the Foundation is able to make decisions on how many scholarship grants it can award.
Thanks to the Mayatan Assistance Program we are able to support students until a sponsor can be found but can only do so for a short time. By becoming a sponsor of a student you are helping not only that child to gain a quality education, but also to assist the Foundation to keep awarding new scholarships to other deserving children.
Sponsoring a student has benefits for the student, Mayatan Foundation, and the sponsor alike.
