About Us
Mayatan Bilingual School is a private school owned and operated by the Mayatan Foundation, a Honduran non-profit organization. Using Honduran and foreign teachers, the school offers instruction in English and Spanish to some 420+ students from preschool through 12th grade. All students come from Copán Ruinas and neighboring communities, and nearly 50% of students receive financial aid. The school was founded in 1991 by mothers who wanted local children to learn English and receive a quality bilingual education. We are affiliated with U.S. 501(c)3 organization Hope for Tomorrow, Inc., and are members of the Association of Bilingual Schools of Honduras (ABSH)
Education for Students from All Backgrounds
Quality bilingual education is often well beyond the means of all but the wealthiest families in Honduras, where urban bilingual schools can cost as much as private schools in the United States. Public schools, the only option available to most families, are grossly underfunded and understaffed.
Mayatan aims to make an excellent bilingual education available, not just to the elite, but to students from middle- and low-income backgrounds. Nearly 50% of Mayatan students receive financial aid from the Mayatan Foundation or foreign and local businesses, organizations, and individuals. Moreover, our tuition is priced to meet the needs and abilities of families in Copán Ruinas.
